Prehistoric Land Shark Found in Mojave Desert
Joshua Tree National Park -- My wife recently made an observation that it seems all our photos (we are both shutter bugs) are of backpacking, nature and Boy Scouts (we are both Assistant Scout Masters). Our lives are full--so full that its hard to find time to go on our regular Los Angeles photo safaris. Instead, we document where we are at in our lives.
Last weekend was our Troop family camp at Joshua Tree; a three hour drive from Los Angeles. While walking among the cholla, creosote and other exotic cacti, I came across a most interesting rock formation, appropriately enhanced with teeth.

Backpacking in Los Angeles
Pasadena -- Without question, one could not ask for a better view to wake up to. Only a one-hour hike takes you up to 2,600 feet, above Los Angeles county, overlooking the city and all it's splendor.

Shoes on the Brink
Yosemite, CA -- More legs (carrying over a theme from yesterday). This time, I included a group with colorful shoes on the edge of Vernal Falls in Yosemite National Park. I shot this photo shortly after three youths went over the falls, 316 feet, to their death.

Pink Shoes
San Gabriel, CA -- A few weeks ago I was a second shooter for a wedding. Sometimes I struggle finding unique shots, but this time I think I found a great angle and subject. I just need a good title. Any ideas?

Pasadena, CA -- My home town; and when ever we get our first rain storm for the season, it always makes news. Let the rain fall!

Wipe Out
The boys got their share of thrills. There were a few tears, but after viewing the photos, crying turned to pride, and then boasting. They discovered that the girls dig a good wipe out!

Been A Long Time
Mountains Above LA -- Yes, I've taken a long-needed break from DFLA. My wife, Amber and I, have been trekking the local hills as well as the trails of the High Sierra with our trusty dog, Andy. The photo above is of us after a 25 mile weekend in the San Gabriel Mountains, a one-hour drive from our back door in Pasadena.
Life is busy but good. I hope to get back to my regular posts soon. Stay tuned.

Serenity in LA
Millard Canyon -- Quaint cabins line a stream that flows though Millard Canyon, minutes from Pasadena. Here, the noise of city life is muffled, as are the cares of yesterday. The foothills of Los Angeles are LA's best kept secret!

Exploring LA's Backyard
Big Santa Anita Canyon -- Friday after work, my wife and I grabbed our backpacks and drove a short 20-minutes to the trailhead where we began our overnight adventure. We left the high tech, flat lands of Los Angeles for the low tech trail and rushing streams of our nearby mountains. What a great way to start off a weekend.

Gas Prices 2 Years Ago
I took this photo in March of 2009 in San Diego.
Today, I paid $4.29 per gallon, but my car takes premium. Oh well.

Storm Clouds over OSH
Pasadena -- Storm clouds gather as shoppers rush in and out of Orchard Supply Hardware. Today LA residents got to experience cooler-than-normal temperatures, with the thermometer dipping all the way down into the 40s! (Joke) Yeah, we have it pretty good here in the Crown City, especially when we get to wake up to snow-capped mountains.

Dynamic V-Day Duo
Pasadena -- I am lucky to have married a woman who enjoys people and photography as much as I do. Photo shoots of each other in the back yard in front of a white backdrop stimulates goofiness and a few keepers. Happy Valentine's Day!

Crystal Cathedral
Garden Grove, Calif.-- This iconic church is made with over 10,000 squares of glass put together with a silicone-based adhesive. Since California is prone to large earthquakes, the Crystal Cathedral apparently can withstand an earthquake of 8.0. I would still hate to be inside during one of our regular temblors.

Characters Along Route 66
Oro Grande, CA -- (Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes from Los Angeles along the National Trails Highway on the old Route 66 near Barstow)
What kid wouldn't want to have their picture taken with the world-famous, "Bottletree Man?"

Fishing for Handouts
San Fransisco, Calif. -- Fisherman's Wharf is a popular destination tourist trap. "Trap" because vendors, shops and restaurants tempt you from every corner, and it's hard to say "no." This guy is working the theme of "Fisherman's...." I normally don't give to lazy people trying to extract money from others (unlike those who are truly down and out), regardless of how clever their pitch is or their sign reads.
This time, my reward for him is that I would make world famous. He said, "Fair enough, brother."

Anita and the Yanks
Pasadena, Calif. -- If you like Irish music, especially with a sweet and sometimes edgy flair, you should come out to Novel Cafe in Pasadena, every other Friday night to experience Anita and the Yanks.
Not only is the band entertaining, filling your ears with a gentle hit of Celtic rock is a little different; plus the dinners are tasty with a well-rounded menu of desserts and drink.
The mix of bookstore ambiance, acoustic instruments and good food helps round out the end of your hard-working week.
