Roadside Americana

Banning -- The road was lined with American flags, proudly waving in the gusty wind. Two men were pushing a rusty pickup truck while a woman and her grandson waited patiently for the next bus in the 92-degree sun. Next time--on a day off--I should spend a day in this town to explore. Funny how we neglect small towns while en route to another big city....

Banning is about 90 minutes from Los Angeles along Interstate 10 near Palm Springs.

Love this shot. Excellent. I love to spend time in small towns.

Wonderful shot. Amazing how you got the flag nearest you to unfurl while the one across the street just hung. Looks like the wind was with you on this one.

Nicely done. I don't believe I've explored Banning before...we did eat at an IHOP there once though. Not good. Now Beaumont is supposed to be very nice. My aunt lived there for a while.

Thanks you all for your comments. Tash, I've spent some time in Beaumont too, but not enough time. Like Banning, I seem to have a need to get to that next destination, which realistically doesn't offer anything more. For me, it's all about taking time to explore.

My partner (your mom went to school with him; a few years apart) is on a Mexican bus line headed back from Las Cruses New Mexico. This shot reminds me of what he told me about his brief visit there today. I dropped him off last night for the beginning of the journey. Poor thing
