Haven't seen a BIG BOY restaurant in years. Didn't know they existed any more. Hope that thermometer is not for body temperature.

Baker, Ca. About 90 minutes from Los Angeles. Yes, Big Boy is still going fairly strong. Gone are the drive-in restaurants, as in American Graffiti, but their burgers are just as good as I remembered them as a kid.

That's changed. When I used to drive past it, it was called Bun Boy I guess Bob's big boy bought them.
I used to eat at Bob's Big Boys all around Orange County when I was a kid until they closed. Then I went to one in Victorville about 12yrs ago and it wasn't so good. i

Do you remember Sambo's? They had the best pancakes and still do in the original and only Sambo's left, it's in Santa Barbara.

James, Yes, I do remember "Bun Boy" and also Sambos. Sambos felt pressured to shut down, since "Sambo" was once used as a derogatory and offensive name for African Americans. Although, the story of Little Black Sambo is the story of an Eastern Indian boy with dark skin. Great story by the way! Sambos was named after the story book. Remember the orange butter? In the story, the orange tiger ran around the tree so fast, it turned to butter.

Yep I remember the tiger butter and I had the book. I think it's a shame that they got pressured to shut down. I wonder if Cracker Barrel will get shut down next. I'm glad one Sambos is still open and I don't find the name offensive at all.

JT,

One of the reasons Sambo's shut down was because of bad management. Through their expansion was to fast, to keep up.

I worked for Sambo's, and was in management.
