You definitely have a way of connecting to people, it's very visible in your photos.
Yes, Jude, that is my technique; to "connect" with the people first and then ask for their photo with a smile. I sometimes get turned down, and when I do, I continue to talk with them and eventually they let me snap a few frames. Then I ask for their address and mail them a photo as a thank you.
A fine portrait it is.
